Every prompt is a clue in disguise. These layered hints nudge your thinking toward rarer answers — reveal only as deep as you need.

The 3-layer hint ladder (works on any prompt)

Layer 1 — category: name the category the prompt belongs to (record? animal? place? film?). Half of all blanks are category confusion.

Hint 1

Layer 2 — discard: say the obvious answer out loud, then ban it. Whatever came instantly, thousands of other players also typed.

Hint 2

Layer 3 — specificize: add a name, number, or place to your idea. "Whale" → "Cuvier's beaked whale". "Shipwreck" → "USS Indianapolis". Specificity is rarity.
